Energy Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Satisfied with the Speed ​​of Kishapu Solar Power Project

The government through the Ministry of Energy has expressed its satisfaction with the speed of implementation of the national large-scale solar power project (150MW) in Kishapu District, Shinyanga which has so far reached 80.4% of construction.

After reviewing the progress of the project, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, said the government is satisfied with the steps achieved by the contractor, noting that the project is part of the implementation of national and international goals for access to sustainable energy.

Engineer Mramba said the 150 megawatt project is being implemented in two phases at a cost of 323 billion shillings.

He said the first phase of the project will be completed in December 2025 by starting to generate 50 megawatts with the Sinohydro Company from China as the main contractor for the project.

“This project is part of the Government’s efforts under the leadership of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, who continues to ensure that all Tanzanians have access to clean, safe and affordable energy services,” said Engineer Mramba.

He said the completion of the Kishapu solar power project will further stabilize the availability of electricity in urban and rural areas and reduce dependence on unsustainable energy sources.

The Project Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Anderson, said the pace of construction is good and they expect the project to be completed within the scheduled time.

And the Manager of Sinohydro Company, Eng. Daniel Xu, said his company’s commitment is to complete the project to high standards within the set time.

“We have increased manpower and equipment to ensure we complete the work on time. We appreciate the good cooperation from the government and the people of Kishapu, we promise to complete this project with the quality it deserves”, he said

The completion of the Kishapu solar power project is expected to increase the country’s capacity to generate renewable energy, enhance access to reliable electricity for institutions, industries and citizens, as well as stimulate economic development in Shinyanga Region and the nation as a whole.
