The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila has visited the Kawe market which was gutted by fire on the night of September 15, 2025 to console traders who lost their property due to the accident where he has directed the Kinondoni Municipal Council to provide Sh100 million as a sympathy hand.
Speaking immediately after visiting the market, which was gutted by fire in the Kawe area, Dar es Salaam, RC Chalamila along with conveying condolences from the President, Dr. Samia said that the market will now be rebuilt by the Government with quality and speed so that traders can continue with their business and that for now traders should be sent to the NHC Tanganyika Perkas housing corporation plots.
RC Chalamila has directed that statistics of traders be compiled in all markets so that when disasters occur, there are accurate statistics of victims, where in the Kawe market there were about one thousand traders who were affected, so he has asked the Kinondoni Municipality to provide 100 million as compensation as early as September 16, 2025.
The Secretary of the Kawe market traders, Mr. Silvester Chidego, has thanked the Government for providing comfort to traders and that the 100 million will be distributed to all traders.
One of the elderly traders of the market, asked stakeholders to come forward to empower traders while warning thieves who stole traders’ products that a special prayer will be read for them.
The Kawe market burned down on the night of September 15, 2025, so on the eve of September 16, 2025, RC Chalamila has ordered a Committee to investigate the cause of the fire to be formed and begin its work immediately.
