The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, has said that the use of clean energy for cooking in the country has increased from 6.9% in 2021 to 20.3% with the target of reaching 80% within 10 years, which so far has remained 9 years.
Engineer Mramba said on September 12, 2025 in Dar es Salaam while launching the Clean Energy for Cooking Conference organized by the Citizen Company in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and various stakeholders under the theme ‘Clean Energy for Cooking Saves Life, Protects the Environment.
Speaking during the launch, Engineer Mramba said Clean Energy for Cooking is not a theoretical matter but is a matter concerning life, environment and economy with its main foundation being to protect health, environment and inclusive development.
Engineer Mramba has continued to encourage citizens to use clean cooking energy, reminding that statistics show that approximately 33,000 Tanzanians lose their lives every year due to respiratory diseases which are largely caused by smoke inhalation resulting from the use of unclean energy including wood and charcoal.
He said that due to these effects, the Government under the leadership of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has prepared a National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy 2024–2034 launched in May, 2024 which will enable 80% of Tanzanians to use clean cooking energy.
Engineer Mramba has thanked the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan who is a national and international leader in clean cooking energy for his exemplary leadership and his sincere commitment to ensuring that every Tanzanian uses clean, safe and affordable cooking energy.
