Ericsson and Siemens to increase investment in Tanzania

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Sweden, Mobhare Matinyi, has visited the headquarters of Ericsson and Siemens Energy in Sweden to discuss increasing investment and continuing to bring their technologies to the country.

Ambassador Matinyi visited Ericsson on September 02, 2025, in Stockholm and spoke with their leaders and experts led by the Director of Government Policy and Outreach, Ola Bergstorm.

On September 03, Ambassador Matinyi visited the offices of Siemens Energy in Finspang and was received by its CEO, Gunnar Wik, along with his management team and experts.

Ericsson explained and demonstrated in practice the revolutionary 5G internet technology used in conjunction with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide professional services in various sectors.

Ericsson engineer Jon Gamble said that in Sweden they are using the technology in ambulance, fire and police services, as well as in agriculture, education, health, and the operation of railway infrastructure, ports, airports, electricity transmission and mining.

Ericsson is also ready to deploy 5G technology throughout the country where this network has not yet arrived in collaboration with mobile companies in Tanzania.

Siemens Energy also showcased its technology for producing gas-fired power plants, which is also being used in the country at the Ubungo power plant in Dar es Salaam.

Siemens has said it wants to continue collaborating with Tanzania in producing electricity using gas in strategic projects in Kinyerezi, Mkuranga, Somanga, Dodoma and Mtwara.

In parallel with the visit, Ambassador Matinyi also spoke to 12 experts from the Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (Tanesco) who are at Siemens to receive special training in operating gas-fired power plants from August 24 to September 13, 2025.

Ambassador Matinyi urged the experts to study the technology diligently as the nation relies solely on them to ensure its energy security.

The two visits are an example of the good diplomatic relations that exist between Tanzania and Sweden, especially in the implementation of economic diplomacy for the benefit of both parties.
