The Tanzanian women’s team from the Future Stars Academy in Arusha has secured second place at the Homeless World Cup, which was held from August 22-30, 2025 in Oslo, Norway, involving 60 teams from 48 countries.
The Future Stars Academy team secured the title after winning the second-tier final of the tournament against Austria by 5 goals to 4. Tanzania’s goals were scored by Loyce Dismas, Susan Michael, Varian Issa and Sarah Jacob.
The first overall winner for the women’s team was Uganda after winning the first-tier final against Romania, Kenya managed to secure third place after winning the final against Mexico in the third-tier of the tournament.
The men’s team Egypt won the overall championship while Portugal won the second-tier and Poland won the third-tier.
The Tanzanian men’s team did not participate in the tournament, teams of four players each start with the first round in groups where the first winners enter the second round of groups in the first division, the second winners enter the second division groups and the third winners in the third division groups.
In the second round, the teams compete again until reaching the final of each division where the first division winner is declared the overall winner; the second division winner becomes the second overall winner and the third division winner becomes the third overall winner. Tanzania has won the second division final.
This competition is organized every year by the Homeless World Cup organization headquartered in the Netherlands in collaboration with the Salvation Army.
Tanzania’s ambassador representing the Nordic, Baltic and Ukraine countries, Mobhare Matinyi, congratulated the young men on their victory and flying the Tanzanian flag well, especially considering that they came in only four without a single reserve player.
This is the first time that a Tanzanian team has participated in this competition which will be held in Mexico next year.
