THE PRIME MINISTER, Kassim Majaliwa, on August 30, 2025, represented the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan at the launch of the use of Clean Cooking Energy in 129 Prisons in the country.
The launch took place at Karanga Prison located in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region on behalf of all prisons in the country.
So far, the sources of alternative energy used in prisons are Biogas, Briquettes, Natural Gas and Electricity.
Mr. Majaliwa said that the move is commendable as it supports the vision of the President, Dr. Samia, to ensure that the entire society uses this energy and thus largely eliminate the harm caused by the use of unhygienic energy.
Speaking while briefing the Prime Minister on the project, the Head of the Agriculture, Livestock and Environmental Protection Unit from the Prisons Service, SACP Daimu Mmolosha said the aim of the service is to ensure there is more than one source of energy to avoid the use of firewood and charcoal.
