PRIME MINISTER, Kassim Majaliwa has commended the Tanzania Prison Service for formalizing the skills prisoners acquire through VETA and enabling them to find employment or start their own businesses after completing their sentences.
He said that through new vocational training and job skills curricula, the service has successfully benefited more than 5,000 prisoners, some of whom have been able to become self-employed or employed after completing their sentences.
He made the commendation on August 26, 2025 when he participated in the 64th anniversary celebrations of the Tanzania Prison Service held at the Tanzania Correctional Service Academy grounds, Ukonga in Dar es Salaam.

He said, the Service has continued to work on the recommendations made by the Hon. President’s Commission to improve Criminal Justice Institutions including improvements to prisoner rehabilitation programs.
“The skills that prisoners gain from the training they receive are of great importance in enabling them to carry out legitimate livelihood activities when they return to society and thus prevent them from committing crimes again”, he said
