TFS Sets Strategy to Address Forest Risks

Iringa: At the VETA Hall in Iringa Municipality, forest officials and soldiers gathered on August 25, 2025, with one main goal to ensure that the forests of the Southern Highlands are protected for the present and future generations.

The Tanzania Forest Service Agency (TFS) – Southern Highlands Zone has officially opened a working session to update the Risk Register for the 2025/2026 financial year.

It is a session that not only looks at existing challenges but also predicts risks that may affect conservation goals and find solutions to them early.

Speaking during the session, the Chief Conservator Class One from TFS Headquarters Dodoma, Mrs. Marium Mrutu, said the main objective of this process is to identify early risks that may affect the achievement of the institution’s goals, assess them and put in place strategies to control or mitigate their effects.

“When we assess risks early, we give ourselves the opportunity to prevent major losses. This is the best way to protect national resources and ensure that forests benefit all Tanzanians,” he said.

The training was also facilitated by PCR Roland Peter Mlingi from TFS Eastern Zone, who stressed the importance of public institutions strengthening the Risk Register every year to increase accountability and strengthen good governance.

According to Mrutu, this step is more than an administrative procedure. It is a manifestation of the commitment to protect forest resources for social, economic and environmental benefits.

This step aims to increase the resilience of forest management systems, ensure that government revenues are not lost, and develop cooperation with communities surrounding the reserves.

This session is an example of how public institutions can build foundations for stability and good governance, ensuring that the nation’s scarce resources are not lost in the hands of the current generation, but remain safe for the future of future generations.
