Orxy Gas Distribution System Launched at Ferry Market

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila on August 21 launched the first LPG gas distribution system in bulk at the Ferry International Fish Market in Dar es Salaam, a project implemented by ORYX Energies Tanzania in collaboration with the Government.

The historic project is a major step in enhancing access to clean energy for fish sellers and small entrepreneurs in the market where the system can now be paid as you use (PAYG), which enables sellers to pay only for the gas they use, thus eliminating the high cost of filling cylinders and reducing daily consumption to Sh.45,000.

Speaking during the launch of the system where a large tank has been built that is used to distribute gas to the traders’ kitchens, RC Chalamila said the system will now enable you to pay according to your consumption.

He said the businessman now has his own meter that reads his daily usage, before and after use, there is no more guessing, no more having to buy small cylinders at high cost, also Oryx has taken safety into account, by installing valves that will be used to shut off the gas in case of an emergency for each stove.

However, gas consumption levels will be easily monitored to ensure that gas is brought to fill this large tank on time while explaining that the cost has reduced and traders who were spending up to Sh.180,000 to fill gas per day can now save up to Sh.45,000 every day.

“Through the Pay As You Go system, this is a very commendable issue, there is no waste, no unused gas unlike in the past where the small cylinder you used at some point had little gas left. High safety, this is I have no doubt about your expertise Oryx in the whole matter of safety, I know all precautions have been taken especially by putting fire extinguishing equipment and emergency procedures ready”, said

Oryx Gas Managing Director, Mr. Benoit Araman said the goal of having the gas tank system in the market is to reduce filling costs, reduce waste and increase efficiency, safety, and a leak-proof system.

He said it is a modern system developed by the Oryx gas technical team based on national and international regulations, as well as facilitating sustainable supply operations with modern monitoring and minor maintenance.

Earlier, the Assistant Administrative Secretary for Economy and Production in Dar es Salaam Region, Dr. Elizabeth Mshote, said the Government’s strategy in implementing the Clean Energy agenda by 2034 is for every 10 people to use Clean Energy.

Dr. Mshote currently, every 10 people to use Clean Energy, only 3 people use Clean Energy and national statistics say that approximately 33 thousand deaths occur due to the effects of the use of dirty energy, according to the Regional report, among the 5 major diseases that concern the issue of respiratory effects, one of which is unsafe energy.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ilala Constituency, Dar es Salaam, Mr. Mussa Zungu said that earlier the traders of the market conveyed their needs to him so he sought Oryx Gas, he is happy to see that the system has been closed which is going to simplify the activities of the traders.

Mr. Zungu said that studies show that there are many deaths in the world that are caused by unsafe energy use so this project is going to be the answer to improving the health of the stakeholders.
