The order of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko to the Rural Energy Agency (REA) to ensure that all auctions in the country have infrastructure that will enable Mama Lishe and Baba Lishe to use Clean Cooking Energy has begun to be implemented as part of the implementation of the agenda of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to ensure that all citizens use clean cooking energy.
The journey to ensure that all auctions in the country use clean cooking energy, has begun at the Msalato Auction in Dodoma where on August 21, 2025, Dr. Biteko distributed smart stoves to approximately 27 Mamalishes serving at the auction along with stoves for grilling meat.
“As you know, the President gave instructions that 80 percent of Tanzanians by 2034 should use clean energy for cooking, his instructions are being implemented, we started with institutions that feed more than 100 people to eliminate the use of firewood and charcoal including all prisons in the country, secondary schools, colleges and other institutions but one of the remaining areas is including auctions which serve many people.” He said, Dr. Biteko

Dr. Biteko said the work of installing Clean Energy for Cooking systems in auctions began with a study to find out the actual use of that energy where in the study, 89.5 percent of all meat burners said they had no understanding about clean energy for cooking, the study also showed that 26.3 percent of meat burners have ever used clean energy for cooking and the remaining percent have never used it.
This shows that there is still work to be done towards the use of Clean Energy for cooking, the steps taken by the Government in Clean Energy for Cooking are the fruits of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan who has shown that she is a female leader who knows the pain of the use of unclean energy and always points out that what she wants to see is more people not using unclean energy for cooking.
She said Tanzania is the only country in Africa that has launched a National Strategy for the Use of Clean Energy for Cooking which has been an example in Africa and other countries are coming to learn so it must be an example and a beacon by living what it says.
In another step, Dr. Biteko has instructed the Director of the City of Dodoma to set up infrastructure that will make clean energy stoves for cooking in auctions in Dodoma region permanent and that the exercise should begin immediately.
He has instructed the National Minerals Corporation (STAMICO) to set up a permanent center for selling alternative charcoal in the Msalato auction so that citizens are not stranded when they need that energy.
He has called on REA to ensure that large-scale meat-burning stoves that use Clean Cooking Energy are available so that citizens who grill meat and those who follow the services do not suffer health consequences from now on.
Dr. Biteko has commended REA and the Executives of the Ministry of Energy for receiving his order quickly and working on it, he has also urged them to continue with innovations that will enable citizens to use clean cooking energy and not forget to assess the use of Clean Cooking Energy in the auctions.
He also said that Mama Lishe and Baba Lishe should support the clean cooking energy agenda and become ambassadors for that energy because if people see the benefits that come from using clean cooking energy from them, they will also be attracted to using it.
Dr. Biteko has thanked the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for doing a great job in the Energy sector where he said that Dodoma Region will soon be the hub of electricity distribution in various regions including Singida, Shinyanga, Tabora, Kigoma and Arusha and also a large power distribution center will be built to manage the National Grid.
Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Mrs. Rosemary Senyamule said that consumers in the Msalato auction per week are between 2000 and 3000 so using Clean Cooking Energy will enable saving the environment by eliminating firewood and charcoal which was used to serve that number of people.
He has requested that the Clean Cooking Energy campaign reach various markets that have food sources and food sources.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba has thanked Dr. Biteko for his vision which has enabled the Msalato Auction to be reached by Clean Cooking Energy as a start to moving services to other auctions.
He explained that the level of clean cooking energy consumption has increased from 6.9 percent in 2022 to 20.3 percent and said that as the use of clean cooking energy increases, the Government will achieve its goal of providing Clean Cooking Energy to about 80 percent of Tanzanians as directed by the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan
The Director General of the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Engineer Hassan Saidy said the Msalato auction has between 45 and 50 meat burners who will be provided with large meat burners, there are also 27 nutrition mothers who
