The Tanzania Railways Corporation expects to employ 2,460 workers in the international standard gauge railway (SGR) project in two sections from Dar es Salaam to Makutopora.
This was stated during a two-day visit by the board of directors of the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), to review the progress of the construction of the international standard gauge railway project SGR and MGR, between Kigoma-Tabora and Tabora – Mwanza which began on August 19, 2025.
These jobs are in addition to the more than 115,000 jobs that are already being created by the contractor in the first to sixth section.
Of the 2,460 jobs, its implementation is in phases where in the 2024/25 financial year, more than 500 employees have been hired and this financial year 2025/26, the expectation is to hire 272 employees and TRC will continue to hire up to 2,460 employees.
While the implementation of the Corporation’s official employment provision continues, a total of 115,000 jobs from the contractor have benefited 115,000 Tanzanians, including youth with grade seven education and other levels of education in various fields.
An analysis of the 115,000 jobs from the contractor is that 35,000 jobs are direct and more than 80,000 are indirect, including various groups such as fathers and mothers, bodabodas, bajajis and service providers of various communication companies such as mocha, phone lines, etc.
