The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has urged patriotic investors to embrace investment opportunities in the tourism sector in the country.
President Dr. Mwinyi said after officially opening the Zanbreeze Beach Resort and Spa hotel located in Kikungwi, South Unguja Region on August 16, 2025.
He said the construction of the project is a joint effort between the Government and local investors to boost the economy and create jobs for the youth and that the Government will continue to strengthen a friendly environment so that they can compete with investors from abroad.
He said the tourism sector has achieved great success due to the increase in visitors coming to visit various attractions in the country, where a total of 202 projects worth US $ 2 billion have been registered with the Tanzania Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA).
The projects have contributed to an increase in visitors from 260,000 in 2020 to 736,000 in 2024, with the Southern Region leading the way in registering hotel projects, with 105 of the 202 projects located in the region.
President Dr. Mwinyi said the Government has strengthened the Zanzibar Investment Authority into a one-stop service center for investors, where registration services are now available using electronic systems and investors can obtain an investment certificate within 24 hours if they complete the required procedures.
He said the Government has passed a new law of 2023 aimed at protecting local investors so that they can invest with small capital in the tourism sector, meet investment criteria and benefit from existing opportunities.
President Dr. Mwinyi noted that the increase in tourists coming to the country reflects economic growth and increased tax revenue in various fields.
He called on investors and citizens to develop tourism that focuses on environmental protection in major investment projects for the benefit of present and future generations.
