PRIME MINISTER, Kassim Majaliwa has called on parents and guardians across the country to ensure they send their youth to receive vocational training coordinated by the Vocational Training Academy (VETA) and the Prime Minister’s Office to enable them to acquire skills that will help them become self-employed and contribute to the development of the Nation.
Speaking immediately after inspecting the training workshops available at VETA, in Ruangwa district, Lindi region, the Prime Minister stressed that the Government has invested significantly in strengthening the infrastructure of vocational colleges as well as coordinating training programs to ensure that youth acquire skills that meet the needs of the current and future job market.
“The Government is committed to ensuring that Tanzanian youth are skilled. VETA training, provided by the Prime Minister’s Office, enables our youth to be employed or self-employed and this is a major step forward for their families and the Nation as a whole,” said the Prime Minister.
In his conversation with some of the students while visiting the college’s workshop, Mr. Majaliwa was pleased with the way the training programs have directly benefited the students.
The Acting Principal of the College, Mohamed Salum, said that VETA Ruangwa continues to make various improvements with the aim of expanding the scope of courses offered to keep pace with the needs of the job market.
He mentioned the efforts being made as including a plan to establish new fields and investment in modern teaching equipment.
A student beneficiary of the Prime Minister’s Office training program, Mr. Maganga Salum, said that before joining the college, he did not have any skills, but through the training he can now do technical jobs and has high hopes of being self-employed immediately after graduation. “We are ripe and now we are ready to go to work.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also visited the area where a hostel is being built for the Namungo football team, as well as inspected the Kassim Majaliwa sports field in Ruangwa, which is expected to be equipped with seats in the stands.
