Four years of President Samia, TARURA Mwanza Budget increases by 300% Mwanza

During the four years of the Sixth Phase Government under the leadership of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, the budget of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) Mwanza Region has increased by 300%.

The statement was made by the TARURA Mwanza Region Manager, Engineer Makori Kisari before the TARURA Audit Committee when it conducted a recent road infrastructure construction inspection tour in the region.

Engineer Makori informed the Committee that the TARURA Mwanza Region budget has increased from 8.4 billion shillings in 2021/2022 to 25 billion shillings in 2024/2025.

He said the increase has enabled them to service the region’s road network of seven districts and eight councils, more than 8,000 kilometers in different grades including asphalt, concrete, stone, gravel and soil.

“It is a matter of gratitude to our Government of the United Republic of Tanzania led by Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the way we increased the budget and its other agencies that oversee the implementation of the budget, starting from the Ministry of Regional and Local Government (RALG) under which we are under but also TARURA Headquarters”, said Engineer Makori.

Engineer Makori explained that last year they have developed projects with more than 79 contracts and added that they have started the procurement process for the 2025/2026 contracts in order to implement the projects before the rainy season begins.

Regarding the problem of traffic congestion in the city center, Engineer Makori said the construction project of the 14 km long road from Buhongwa to Igoma implemented through the Tanzania Urban and Town Development Project (TACTIC) has great benefits for Mwanza City.

According to Engineer Makori, the road will be used as a bypass road for all vehicles coming from Shinyanga Region and Simiyu and Mara regions to enter Mwanza City. If they need to enter the city center, they can use the same road to reduce traffic congestion in the city center without any valid reasons.

Chairman of the TARURA Audit Committee, CPA. Ally Rashid said they have inspected some of the Projects and the main goal is to satisfy themselves that the Projects being implemented are following the procedures in accordance with the contracts they entered into.

He said they are grateful that some of the Projects they visited are doing well and added that some have been completed and others are in the final stages of completion.
