World Bank to build 400KV power line

The World Bank (WB) has stated that it will provide funds for the implementation of the project to build a 400 kV high-voltage power transmission line from Uganda to Tanzania.

This was stated by the Energy Specialist from the World Bank Office in Tanzania, Dr. Rhonda Jordan when she held talks with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Mha. Felchesmi Mramba at the Ministry of Energy Offices, Mtumba City Government, on July 23, in Dodoma.

Dr. Rhonda said that the bank has now agreed to implement the project after satisfying itself that it does not have environmental impacts as previously stated.

“The Board of Directors will now approve funds to start implementing the project, which was stalling due to allegations of environmental impact, but now the board is satisfied and will provide funds to start implementing it”, said Dr. Rhonda

In another step, Dr. Rhonda has invited the Ministry of Energy to participate in the United Nations Conference to be held in New York, USA in September, 2025.

During their conversation, Secretary General Mramba told Dr. Rhonda that they will continue to collaborate with the World Bank on various Energy projects including the Tanzania-Zambia (TAZA) electricity transmission project and other similar projects.

The meeting was also attended by the Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga and Chief Energy Engineer John Mageni.
