Prime Minister visits Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University

PRIME MINISTER Kassim Majaliwa has visited the Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University (BSATU) and held talks with the university leaders led by the Dean, Mr. Romaniuk Nikolai.

The talks were held on July 23, 2025 at the university’s conference hall in Minsk where issues of cooperation between Tanzanian universities including Sokoine and DIT were discussed.

The Prime Minister explained to the university leaders how the Tanzanian Government under the leadership of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has improved the education policy which calls for vocational education and technical skills to be an important part of the training curricula offered across the country.

He explained to the leaders about the memorandum of understanding in the education sector signed yesterday in the presence of the Prime Minister of Belarus and that now is the right time to look at how to organize study tours, exchange students and lecturers to build capacity on both sides.

The Dean of BSATU University, Mr. Romaniuk Nikolai assured the Prime Minister that the university is ready to start discussions with leaders from the Ministry of Education who have accompanied the Prime Minister to see how they can start implementing the issues discussed.

He told the Prime Minister that the University, which was established in 1954, is a leader in the country in providing training in the fields of engineering, economics and administration and collaborates with 39 affiliated institutions and organizations involved in agricultural issues and the development of modern agricultural machinery and tools.

He said they focus more on professional fields in animal husbandry and agricultural mechanisation where 70 percent of the training provided at the university is done in practicals and then the student is given 28 weeks to go outside the university to do practical training (internship).

The Prime Minister also met with Representatives of the Association of Belarusian Companies Doing Business with African Countries (AFTRADE) at the conference hall of the President Hotel.

During the visit, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of State, President’s Office, Labour, Economy and Investment, Mr. Shariff Ali Sharriff, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation for East Africa, Cosato Chumi, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Dr. Khatibu Kazungu, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Agriculture, Dr. Stephen Nindi and Tanzanian Ambassador to Russia and Belarus, Ambassador Fredrick Kibuta.
