TFS retiree impressed by Sabasaba development revolution

Dar es Salaam: Former Chief Conservator and Head of the Extension and Propagation Unit of the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS), Mr. Charles Ngatigwa on June 3, 2025, expressed his delight at the major improvements being made by TFS at the 48th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba).

Mr. Ngatigwa, who visited the TFS pavilion earlier accompanied by his grandchildren, said he was surprised and pleased to see the major changes from the appearance of the pavilion to the innovative services provided and to encourage citizens to visit and learn.

“I have truly seen a huge revolution. During my service, we had many challenges in awareness and education, but today I have seen for myself how TFS is using the Sabasaba opportunity to teach and provide practical services. This is a big and commendable step,” said Mr. Ngatigwa.

His grandchildren were more interested in the beekeeping class organized by TFS inside the pavilion and went so far as to request to be taught step by step how to raise bees and get their products.

The conservator in charge of the TFS Bee Desk, Mr. Said Abubakar, used the time to provide them with hands-on training on the entire beekeeping value chain from hive preparation, bee behavior, honey collection and other bee products.

In addition to learning, the young people also had the opportunity to taste fresh honey and witness how bees work.

In addition, as part of the special api-therapy service offered at the pavilion, they were allowed to be stung by bees with the aim of experiencing the benefits of this natural remedy that is increasingly gaining popularity around the world.

All admitted to enjoying the service and promised to return to learn more and pursue opportunities to start small bee projects in their homes.

Mr. Ngatigwa has called on citizens to use the opportunity of Sabasaba to visit the TFS pavilion to learn about various issues related to conservation, investment opportunities in the forestry and beekeeping sectors and other professional services.

“Anyone can get the opportunity to hang hives in protected forests completely free of charge and be provided with animal husbandry education by TFS experts at no cost. This is a great treasure, many citizens do not know about it,” said Mr. Ngatigwa

He has encouraged citizens who are interested in using honey as a nutritional supplement to make sure they visit the special Forest Honey Shop located inside the TFS pavilion to get clean, safe and quality-certified honey.

TFS will continue to provide these services and training to citizens at Sabasaba grounds until June 13, 2025.
