Parliament has accepted the amendment of Nyerere National Park

Parliament has approved the Government’s request to break the Nyerere National Park with the aim of resolving border disputes and enabling development activities to continue in environmental environment for society and conservation.

Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Hazara Chana, presenting the resolution in parliament, said the government had decided to break down 1,617 square kilometers from Nyerere National Park and bring it back to the Savings Selous Wildlife.

He said the move has reduced the size of the park from 30,893 square kilometers to 29,276 square kilometers.

Explaining more, grandmother. Chana said the move aims to eliminate long -term border disputes between the park, surrounding villages, the reservations of Selous and the Mbarang’andu Wildlife Conservation Communities, Juhiwumwa, Iluma, Responsibility, Magingo and Nalika.

“In doing so, we are strengthening the safety of protected areas, building better relationships between citizens and conservation and eliminating long -term conflicts,” said Mrs. Chana.

Minister Chana has stated that the border amendment aims to protect an important ecosystem that connects Nyerere National Park with the Savings Selous Wildlife, as well as to ensure sustainable water flow in the Rufiji River, which is a major source of electricity production through the project of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere (JNHPP).

Grandmother. Chana noted that the move will increase the nation’s productivity by strengthening tourism activities, tourist hunting in the Selous Savings Wildlife and surrounding areas, thus contributing to local revenue through the tourism industry.

“At present, we are heading towards the improvement of natural resources conservation in general wildlife, plants, aquatic breeding and also increasing access to water for the use of farmers, breeders and fishermen”, She added.
