Deputy Minister for Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga has said that the Government through the Ministry of Energy has spent approximately 107.36 billion shillings to supply electricity to all 474 villages in Simiyu Region.
Mrs. Kapinga said on June 18, 2025 while assessing the state of electricity availability in Simiyu Region and the progress of clean cooking energy distribution at the conclusion of the working visit of the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to Simiyu Region.
“Hon. President, after completing the electricity supply to the villages, we are now supplying electricity to the Subdistricts and are currently implementing electricity projects in 638 Subdistricts out of 1,408 Subdistricts in Simiyu Region”, said Mrs. Kapinga
She added that the Government will build a Simiyu electricity receiving and cooling station through a robust grid project, adding that Simiyu Region currently receives electricity from three regions: Shinyanga, Mwanza and Mara.
She said the station will further strengthen the electricity supply in Simiyu and thus be important for the development of the people of Simiyu.
She said the robust grid project in Simiyu region has two parts, which are the construction of an electricity transmission line from Ibadakuli Shinyanga to Bariadi which will be built at a cost of approximately 48 billion shillings and the construction of a Bariadi power receiving and cooling station which will be built at a cost of 49 billion shillings.
She added that the completion of the Simiyu Regional Power Receiving and Cooling Station project will enable the Region to have a capacity of 150 megawatts.
Regarding Clean Cooking Energy, Kapinga said Simiyu Region has received approximately 16,275 subsidized gas cylinders, all of which have already been taken by the citizens at subsidized prices.
