Electricity Commissioner and renewable energy checked the electricity projects in Dar

The Electricity and Energy Commissioner from the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga, on June 12, 2025, has made a visit to review the implementation of a solid grid project in Dar es Salaam and provide important instructions to the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (Tanesco) and contractors implementing the projects.

The projects, aim to enhance access to electricity by improving the transportation and distribution of electricity in the country as part of the Government’s strategy to ensure better and more reliable services for citizens.

Speaking shortly after the visit, the commissioner said he was satisfied with the steps reached in the implementation of the projects despite various environmental challenges and emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to ensure the projects were completed on time.

“I am satisfied with the steps that have been reached but I have ordered contractors to speed up the work, the equipment will be available on time and work rates to be considered so that these projects can provide the intended results for the public,” emphasized Engineer Luoga.

He said the strategic projects, implemented by TANESCO with government funding aim to improve electricity service for residents of Dar es Salaam and other areas in the country.

He has congratulated the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Solution Hassan for approving financial resources for the implementation of these key projects.

In his instructions, he has called on Tanesco to increase management for contractors in ensuring timely access to equipment and managing the quality of work to avoid an increase in the costs of delays.

Engineer Abdallah Chikoyo, TANESCO’s Electricity Project Manager who represented the CEO has pledged to increase efforts in project management and to put in place timely work plans.

“We are committed to increasing strength in the management of these projects and strengthening partnerships with development partners to ensure that it is timely and effective, fulfilling our role in improving the electricity service in the country,” said Engineer Chikoyo.

The visit was part of the implementation of the Government’s responsibility in monitoring the implementation of development projects where Commissioner Luoga visited Ubungo I, Mabibo, Kinyerezi and Mboto Gongo.

At these stations the operation of the installation of high -quality machinery (transformers) is continuing at a reasonable pace as a move to strengthen the electricity distribution infrastructure in Dar es Salaam.
