The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has been awarded a special award for community participation in road construction, namely “People Centered Design Approach”.
The participation is to ensure that the design includes ideas, suggestions and specific needs for the community that will be served by the relevant road after it is built, especially areas of social activities such as schools, markets and health services (hospitals, health centers, dispensaries and clinics).
The special award was presented by the International Institute ‘FIA Foundation’ in collaboration with AMEND at the Africa Regional Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dar es Salaam, which was attended by various countries including Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, Sao Tome, Madagascar and host Tanzania.
TARURA has participated in the conference by providing education to various African countries to ensure that the roads being built are safe for users, especially school children.
