TANESCO CEO, Mr. Lazaro Twange has said that the Kishapu Solar Power Project in Shinyanga Region has reached 63.3 percent completion.
Mr. Twange said the first phase of the Project will generate 50 Megawatts that will be fed into the National Grid by the end of October this year.
Mr. Twange said on June 08, 2025 when he made a visit to inspect the progress of the project which costs 118 billion shillings for the first phase while the second phase is expected to spend 204 billion shillings.

“First of all, we thank the President for providing us with funds for all phases, as you can see, work is ongoing and the Project is expected to be connected to the National Grid by the end of October to distribute electricity to the citizens, but we are also in the final stages of procurement to find a contractor who will implement the Project for the second phase which will generate 100 megawatts” emphasized CEO Twange.
He said TANESCO is making deliberate efforts to ensure the Project is completed on time to keep up with the increase in people’s needs and investment activities that rely on electricity to operate.
The Project Manager, Engineer Emmanuel Andarson said that the project was initially scheduled to be completed in February 2025 but the Contractor was given an extension after facing some challenges where he has promised to complete the project in accordance with the contract agreement.
The Kishapu solar power generation project located in Ngunga Village, Shinyanga Region began its implementation on December 08, 2023 and is expected to be completed on October 29, 2025.
The project costs a total of 323 billion shillings for both phases and will have the capacity to generate 150 megawatts of electricity.
