THE Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Mohammed Khamis Abdulla, has said Tanzania has received praise from various African countries for its success in bringing communications services to rural areas.
The move has positioned Tanzania as a role model in Africa in the development of digital services for all.
Speaking at the closing of the 14th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF 2025) held at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre (JNICC), Mr. Abdulla said the meeting brought together participants from nearly 40 African countries who gathered to discuss the development of digital technology and how to achieve the inclusion of every citizen in the digital age.
Mr. Abdulla stressed that Tanzania is ready to collaborate with other countries by sharing their experiences and best practices in delivering communications services to citizens, especially those living in rural areas.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Universal Communications Fund (UCSAF), Engineer Peter Mwasalyanda attended the meeting and participated in various discussions aimed at highlighting the achievements, challenges and opportunities related to access to communication services in remote areas.
The participation is part of the Government’s efforts to advance national and international discussions on digital equality.
Through UCSAF, the Government of Tanzania has successfully extended telephone and internet services to rural areas, areas that previously did not have such services. These achievements have been a major catalyst for social and economic development in rural areas.
