The Journalists Accreditation Board [JAB] has said that the deadline for registering journalists on its TAI-HABARI system is June 21, this year.
A statement issued by JAB yesterday and circulated to the media said that JAB has given every journalist one month to register and obtain his/her identity card which will enable him/her to work without harassment.
The statement which was signed by the Acting Director General, Mr. Patric Kipangula said that journalists who fail to do so, regulation 17[1][@] of the media laws, government announcement and 18 of Feb 03,2017 will be used to punish them.
The statement emphasized that this year is a General Election year so every journalist must have an identity card to work otherwise even if they are allowed to work, the Board has asked journalists to register within the specified period.
It said that journalists who register with the Board will have the opportunity to form an Independent Press Council as directed in section 24 of the Information Services Act in chapter 229.
The statement also reminded journalists that the registration system is available at the link https://www.taihabari.jab.go.tz and added that the registration fee is only 50,000/- for a journalist who meets all the criteria.
It mentioned journalists who are required to register as editors, freelancers, correspondents, broadcasters, photographers, producers, journalists who are undergoing practical training and journalists from abroad.
