THE PRIME MINISTER, Mr. Kassim Majaliwa has instructed the Mwanza regional leadership to ensure that it completes the investigation of Sengerema District Hospital employees who are allegedly involved in theft so that legal action can be taken.

“Employees are required to serve the public with great honesty and integrity and the Government will not tolerate anyone who is proven to be involved in theft. It is very important to take care of equipment, here we have brought three stolen motorcycles, construction equipment and medical equipment have been stolen and the tires of an ambulance have been stolen, how do you want it to run”, questioned the Prime Minister

He issued these instructions on May 19, 2025 while speaking to the public after inspecting and laying the foundation stone of the Sengerema District Hospital construction project while on his working visit to Mwanza region, where he has urged employees to serve the public properly.

He said the Government is providing a lot of money to ensure that citizens have access to various services, including health services, near their homes to relieve them of the inconvenience and costs of accessing these services away from their homes, so it is important to safeguard these resources and that all employees who are found to be involved in theft should be taken to task.

Sengerema District Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Darison Andrew said the district hospital construction project began in 2020, which has been implemented in phases, August 16, 2023 began providing services while the construction continues.

He said the construction until completion is expected to cost more than 3.1 billion shillings, where in addition to providing construction funds, the Government also provided 1.1 billion shillings for the purchase of medical equipment.

“In addition to the amount of money, our hospital has also received various medical equipment from the Government worth 418 million shillings which are used to provide services”, said Dr. Andrew

“We are very grateful to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for its efforts to improve the health sector, especially the construction of infrastructure for providing services, the availability of medical equipment, medicines and skilled service providers”, he said

He said the construction project expected to continue at the hospital is the construction of a private ward, the construction of a fence around the hospital, pedestrian paths (Walkways), a mother and child care building (RCH), a vaccination services building (IVD) and 10 staff houses.
