It has been stated that the project that uses modern solar power generation technology is a savior for small-scale miners in the country by reducing production costs by more than 65 percent.
This was stated by the Minister of Minerals, Mr. Anthony Mavunde on May 18, 2025 while launching the solar power generation project located in Nanga village, Igunga District, Tabora Region, which has been established by the Taur Tanzania Mining Company.
He said that the solar power generation project supports the efforts of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to promote the use of clean energy and combat environmental pollution in the country by reducing consumption that causes carbon emissions.

Minister Mavunde said that the solar power generation technology will be deployed in other mining areas with the aim of helping small-scale miners in their areas to mine productively and stimulate the national economy as well as protect the environment.
Minister Mavunde said Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania has made great strides in developing the Mining Sector where so far the sector has been able to contribute to the National GDP by 10.1 percent in 2024, one year ahead of the 2025 target as directed by the Election Manifesto and 5-year Development Plan.
Minister Mavunde said in the regions of Dodoma, Singida and Tabora there are major research projects underway in those areas where there is a high possibility of the establishment of a large mine that will lead to changing the lives and economy of the people in those areas.
The Igunga District Commissioner, Mrs. Sauda Mtondoo said the presence of the Taur Tanzania Mining Company Limited in Igunga district has brought about great development in Nanga town and Igunga District in general, including creating jobs and boosting the economy for the community surrounding the Mine.

Mrs. Mtondoo said that in 2023/24, Igunga District produced more than 400 kilos of gold and from June 2025 to May 2025, Igunga has produced more than 300 kilos of gold, where he also used the opportunity to request Minister Mavunde to be granted a Mineral Market in Igunga District.
The General Manager of Taur Tanzania Limited Company Martin George said that the Company started mining activities in 2010 using fuel energy (generators) and later Tanesco electricity, so he said that solar power generation technology has helped reduce production costs to a large extent.
