The government through the Tanzania Measurement Agency (WMA) has inspected and verified 1,013,859 measurements which is equivalent to 99.2 percent of the target of inspecting 1,022,342 measurements in the 2024/2025 financial year.
The Minister for Industry and Trade, Mr. Selemani Jafo, disclosed this in parliament in Dodoma, May 14, 2025 while presenting the budget speech for the 2025/2026 financial year.
“Of the measurements inspected and verified, 10,898 measurements were corrected and 761 were rejected”, said Mr. Jafo
Minister Jafo said that during the 2024/2025 period, his Ministry through WMA continued to conduct routine inspections and surprise inspections where a total of 3,293 out of 3,000 planned inspections of various tests used in trade, health, safety and the environment have been carried out, equivalent to 109.8 percent.

He said the most frequently inspected tests were fuel pumps, Flowmeters used to measure fuel in depots and oil storage warehouses.
Tanks for storing and transporting fuel, water gauges, scales used to measure various products, height measurements as well as trucks carrying gravel, sand and rubble.
Speaking about the control of packaged goods, Minister Jafo said that until March 2025, WMA had carried out the work at 13 stations in border areas and ports.
He named the centres as Sirari (Mara), Mtukula (Kagera), Namanga (Arusha), Holili (Kilimanjaro), Tunduma (Songwe), Tarakea (Kilimanjaro) and Horohoro (Tanga).
Others are Kasumalu (Mbeya), Kwara and Bagamoyo (Coast), Manyovu (Kigoma) and Mbweni as well as Temeke (Dar es Salaam).
He mentioned some of the products inspected as timber, plant seeds, cooking oil, soap, milk, fruits, sugar, toothpaste, salt, alcoholic beverages, fertilizers, construction materials, gas, wires and water.
Meanwhile, Parliament has approved a budget request of 135,788,232,000 shillings/- for the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the financial year 2025/2026, of which 93,900,697,000 shillings is for recurrent expenditure and 41,887,535,000 shillings is for development expenditure.
