Deputy Minister of Energy, Mrs. Judith Kapinga has said that the Government continues to implement a project to supply electricity to strategic areas in the country including small mining areas, fishing areas, industries and those that promote economic activities.
Mrs. Kapinga said yesterday, May 14, 2025 in parliament in Dodoma while responding to a question by the Member of Parliament for Mwibara, Mr. Charles Kaijage who wanted to know the Government’s strategy to supply electricity to fishing areas to boost the economy of the people of those areas.
“Honorable Deputy Speaker, this project to supply electricity to strategic areas has reached more than 300 areas including health centers and water wells to areas that provide social services”, said, Mrs. Kapinga
Responding to a question by the Member of Parliament for Igunga, Mr. Nicholas Ngassa who asked when the Government will start supplying electricity to the Subdistricts of Igunga Constituency.
Mrs. Kapinga said Igunga Constituency has a total of 337 Subdistricts where out of these, 95 Subdistricts have been supplied with electricity.
She said that in 15 Subdistricts, Contractors are continuing with the implementation of projects through the Subdistrict Electrification Project Phase Two A (HEP IIA) and in 69 Subdistricts, tenders have been announced through the Subdistrict Electrification Project Phase Two B (HEP IIB).
She said that the Government through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) will continue to allocate funds to supply electricity to the remaining 158 subdistricts.
She stressed that the cost of connecting electricity to rural areas is only 27,000/-, adding that there is a project that will start soon involving Subdistricts that do not have a main electricity line and those that are on a main electricity line.
