Deputy Minister for Energy, Ms. Judith Kapinga has said that as of March 2025, approximately 216 Government Schools have moved to using clean energy for cooking, of which, 146 Secondary Schools use LPG gas.
Ms. Kapinga said this on May 07, 2025 in Parliament in Dodoma while responding to a question by the Member of Parliament for Liwale, Mr. Zuberi Mohamedi Kuachauka who asked when gas stoves will be used across the country.
“The government through REA continues to provide subsidies for the construction of clean cooking energy infrastructure for other schools and on April 20, 2025, REA through the Ministry of Energy has received approval from RALGM to install clean cooking energy infrastructure in 115 schools including 16 Regional Science Schools for Girls; 7 National Schools for Boys, 66 Regular Boarding Schools and 26 Old Secondary Schools”, said, Ms. Kapinga
She stressed that the government through REA and various stakeholders will continue to install cooking energy infrastructure in secondary schools depending on the availability of funds.
Ms. Kapinga added that the Ministry of Energy through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) is implementing projects to install clean cooking energy systems in the Police Force and Prisons in 24 Regions, the Fire Service and Refugee Services.
He said there is a strategy to install clean energy cooking systems in institutions under the Ministry of Health including approximately 21 regional, district and national hospitals.
Responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Special Seats, Mrs. Tunza Malapo who wanted to know what the Government’s strategy is to ensure that new schools, dispensaries and health centers are built with clean energy cooking systems.
Mrs. Kapinga said through the clean energy cooking strategy whose implementation has begun, the Government is moving towards the same approach of schools, dispensaries and health centers being built in parallel with clean energy cooking infrastructure.
