Parliament approves 2025/2026 Mining Budget

Dodoma: Members of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania have unanimously approved the Ministry of Mines Budget for the 2025/26 Fiscal Year totaling approximately 224.98 billion shillings for ministries and institutions under it to carry out its responsibilities.

The budget, which was approved with strong support from members of parliament, aims to continue the implementation of strategic projects in the Mining Sector as well as strengthen the delivery of services and the performance of the ministry and its institutions.

The Minister for Mines, Mr. Anthony Mavunde, presenting the Revenue and Expenditure Plan of the Ministry of Mines for the Government Financial Year 2025/2026 on May 02, 2025 in Parliament in Dodoma, explained to Parliament that the amount is to enable the Ministry of Mines and its institutions to fulfill their roles and responsibilities.

“Mr. Speaker, in order for the Ministry to be able to carry out its planned responsibilities and objectives, including the collection of revenue of 1,405,537,268,755.00 shillings (1.4 trillion), I request your Honorable Parliament to approve and pass an estimate of 224,984,150,000.00 shillings for the expenditure of the Ministry and its Institutions for the Financial Year 2025/2026”, said, Mr. Mavunde.

According to Minister Mavunde, a breakdown of the budget, 124,604,788,000.00 shillings (124.6 billion) equivalent to 55.38 percent of the total budget has been allocated for development projects that aim to bring productivity and stimulate the growth of the mining sector in the country.

He said 100,379,362,000.00 (100.3 billion) or 44.62 percent is for routine expenditure, of which 24,268,585,000.00 Shillings have been allocated for salaries of employees (PE) while 76,110,777,000.00 Shillings have been allocated for other expenditure (OC) of the Ministry and its institutions.

The approval of the budget, unanimously, gives a signal of the Government’s commitment to continue investing strongly in the mining sector to ensure that it contributes fully to the national economy and the welfare of the people.

Minister Mavunde explained that the Ministry has come up with a special program called “Mining for a Brighter Tomorrow (MBT)” that aims to encourage the participation of groups of women, youth and people with special needs in the entire mining activity chain.

In addition, through the vision of Vision 2030; Mining is Life and Wealth, the Ministry aims to make the mining sector a catalyst for the lives of Tanzanians by conducting in-depth geophysical research using modern technology (airborne geophysical survey) to increase the country’s geological database in parallel with linking the mining sector with other sectors such as water, land, health, agriculture, economic, etc.

In the area of ​​Advanced Research and Modern Technology, Minister Mavunde said, the Government through the Geology and Minerals Research Institute (GST) will increase geophysical research by air to reach 34% of the country’s area by 2026.

He also said, the construction of a new modern laboratory (State-of-the-Art Geoscientific Laboratory) in Dodoma will increase the study of modern minerals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt but also the purchase of a Helicopter that will be equipped with special modern equipment for research and modern equipment is being purchased to accelerate the collection of information.

Minister Mavunde has explained the Government’s plan to continue improving the environment for small-scale miners by connecting them with financial institutions and banks so that they can access loans and grow their capital, providing them with modern mining and processing technologies, education and mining areas and thus running their activities more productively.

Also, the Ministry of Minerals will continue with its strategy of building a digital system to manage the Mining Sector efficiently and productively and for the benefit of the economy and the nation as a whole.
